The East London Sauna & Cold plunge
East London does a lot of things well, and recovery is one of the newer ones. People here run more, lift more, ride more, and lately they sauna more too. We built Sauna & Plunge Co. for exactly that crowd: somewhere serious about heat and cold therapy, with a cold plunge and a studio alongside it, and a social side that never feels clinical.
Where we are
We’re in Shoreditch, right at the heart of East London and easy to reach from across the East and South East. Whether you’re coming from Bethnal Green, Bow, Whitechapel, Hackney, Stratford, Canada Water or Bermondsey, or from further out, the Overground, Elizabeth line and Central line all land you close by. It’s the kind of place that’s genuinely on your doorstep, wherever in East London your doorstep happens to be.
Why East London is the right home for this
A few reasons. East London has always been the part of the city most open to a new idea. It’s also where a lot of the best independent gyms, run clubs, yoga studios and recovery minded communities have set up over the last decade. People here already understand that hard training needs real recovery, and that a sauna and cold plunge is the piece that’s usually missing.
We’re not the first sauna in London. But we are, we think, the one most built around the idea that recovery should feel social rather than solemn, and accessible rather than exclusive.
What you’ll find inside
Two saunas and six plunges, plus a studio. The traditional Finnish sauna runs hot and humid, with proper löyly, the kind the Nordics have spent centuries refining. The infrared sauna is gentler on the body, works the tissues differently, and is easier to settle into for a longer session.
The six cold plunges are 3D printed, which is a more sustainable way to build them, and they come in pairs at 3°C, 6°C and 12°C, so there’s never a queue to get in. The 12°C is there partly because emerging research suggests women’s cold exposure response benefits from slightly warmer water, and it’s a sensible starting point for anyone new to this too.
There’s also a studio running breathwork, yoga, Pilates and sound sessions for the slower side of recovery, hot showers and a properly considered changing space, and a café lounge and social area for afterwards. Drinks, conversation, no pressure to leave.
The spa feeling, without the price or the fuss
Here’s the thing people don’t expect. It has the good parts of a spa, the heat, the cold, the calm, the sense of being properly looked after, but none of the cost or the occasion. We cap every session at six people, so it stays quiet and unhurried rather than crowded, and it costs somewhere closer to a tenth of a spa day.
That’s the whole idea. Not a luxury you book once a year and build a weekend around, but something accessible you can actually fit into normal life, whether that’s a slow weekend reset or a short break in the middle of a busy work week.
How a session works
Sessions are 30 minutes, by design. Long enough for three or four proper rounds of hot and cold, short enough to fit into a lunch break, a gap between meetings, or the bit of the morning before everything else starts. We didn’t want this to be the thing you clear an evening for. We wanted it to be the thing you actually do, often, because consistency is where the real benefit lives. Three short sessions a week beats one long one every time.
Coming from elsewhere in East London
Most of East London is a short hop away. From Bethnal Green it’s about 6 minutes on the 8 bus, or one stop on the Elizabeth line to Liverpool Street and a short walk, roughly 15 minutes door to door. From Bow or Mile End it’s around 6 minutes on the Central line to Liverpool Street then a five minute walk, about 15 to 20 minutes all in. Whitechapel is barely 2 minutes on the Elizabeth line to Liverpool Street and you’re basically here, under 15 minutes door to door. Stratford is 6 to 8 minutes to Liverpool Street on the Central or Elizabeth line then a short walk, around 15 to 20 minutes. Hackney Wick and Homerton come in on the Overground via Highbury & Islington or Stratford, around 25 to 30 minutes. And Bermondsey and Canada Water are easier than you’d think: the Windrush line runs straight from Canada Water to Shoreditch High Street in 9 minutes with no changes, so it’s about 20 minutes door to door from Bermondsey.
What people use it for
Some people come after training, some before work, some on a date, some after a long week. Plenty come as much for the social side as the cold water, and a real community has grown up around the place, with the regulars often ending up knowing each other. It works just as well as a weekend reset or a midweek break from the desk.
If you’re looking for a sauna and cold plunge in East London, this is what we’ve built. Come and see what you think.
